The Manchester Metropolitan University is the largest campus-based university in the UK. The recent UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment ranked 60% of MMU’s research output as of world leading or internationally excellent quality. The quality of research of the Department of Sociology involved in the project was acknowledged in the UK’s assessment of research quality (Research Excellence Framework - REF). MMU was among the top 20 institutions for sociological research, with all research being considered world-leading or internationally excellent and providing substantial impact (joint 10th place for impact in REF). The department is home to the Policy and Evaluation Research Unit (PERU), advising national and local policy-makers, and holds major roles in several significant national and European projects.
MMU has experience of participating in, and managing a range of European funded research projects including a number supported by Horizon 2020 and previous Framework Programmes. The multi-disciplinary team of sociologists, psychologists, evaluators, and economists who will be part of ECDP are involved in international leading research in a range of social policy issues including youth political participation, social justice, employment, and social innovation.
