European Cohort Development Project presented at International Scientific Conference in Bulgaria

EuroCohort team members from Daugavpils University Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences Dr. Ilze Kacane and Dr. Alina Romanovska participated in the 5th International Multidisciplinary Scientific Conference on Social Sciences & Arts SGEM 2018, that was held in Albena, Bulgaria on August 24 – September 2, 2018.

Ilse Kacane’s report “Improving Quality of Life for Children and Young People: “European Cohort Development Project” was aimed at presenting the benefits of longitudinal well-being surveys in EU and it introduced ECDP as a successor of FP7 project MYWeB that had provided the proof of concept for the development of a Europe wide longitudinal survey of child and youth well-being. The presenter focused on project’s contribution towards the achievement of sustainable development goals. Alina Romanovska in her presentation “Interpersonal Interaction with Policy Actors as A Basis for Research on Children’s and Young People’s Well-Being: From MYWeb to EuroCohort”, elaborated in co-authorship with ECDP team leader in Latvia prof. Anita Stasulane, shared the experience of creating a communication network consisting of children and youth policy makers. She dwelled upon interpersonal interaction with policy actors as a basis for research on children and young people’s well-being. The participants of the conference expressed great interest in the idea of EuroCohort and participated in the discussion on the project methodology.

The international event was attended by several hundred participants from more than twenty-five countries among them Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, France, Croatia, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, the Baltic countries, Israel, Canada, Turkey a.o. The aim of the conference was to provide a platform for academicians and professionals with cross-disciplinary interests related to social sciences and humanities, to exchange ideas and interact with each other. The conference examined the nature of disciplinary and interdisciplinary scientific concepts that arise in the context of ‘real world’ applications; it covered all areas of social sciences and arts, in total 28 scientific fields.
